Context
BepInEx is the essential framework required to run custom logic and extend capabilities on your Valheim server. On the Winheberg panel, installing and enabling BepInEx takes only a few seconds using the Software Changer tool.
This guide walks you through the step-by-step process of activating BepInEx on your server.
Prerequisites
- An active Valheim server on your Winheberg panel.
Step 1: Stop the Server
To ensure a clean installation and prevent file conflict errors, your server must be completely shut down before changing software versions.
- Log in to your Winheberg panel.
- On your server dashboard, click the red Stop button in the top right corner.
- Wait until the server status shows Offline.
Step 2: Enable BepInEx via Software Changer
- In the left sidebar menu, scroll down to the CONFIGURATION section.
- Click on Software Changer.
- Locate the Valheim BepInEx entry in the software list.
- Choose your installation preference:
- Select NOT DELETE FILES to install BepInEx while preserving all your existing server data (world files, configurations).
- Click the green INSTALL button.
The panel will automatically download and deploy the BepInEx framework onto your server.
Step 3: Start the Server to Complete Setup
- Go back to the Console tab in the left menu.
- Click the green Start button.
- Observe the startup logs: BepInEx will automatically initialize as the server boots up.
Your Valheim server is now running on the BepInEx framework!
Troubleshooting
❌ Installation gets stuck
- Server Status: Ensure the server was completely turned off (Offline) before clicking INSTALL. If the server was running during installation, the process might fail.
❌ Server fails to launch after switching to BepInEx
- Option Check: If you accidentally selected a wipe option, check the Files tab to confirm system files are intact. You can re-run the installation via Software Changer at any time.
Best Practices
- Always select "NOT DELETE FILES": Unless you intend to perform a complete server wipe, keep this option selected to protect your world save.
- Create a Backup: Before switching software builds via Software Changer, create a precautionary backup from the Backups tab.
